Aleppo has been famous for its industry of handmade soap for over 1000 years. Lorbeer's Traditional Aleppo soap takes 1 year for production and drying. Aleppo soap is composed of olive oil, laurel oil, lye (Sodium Hydroxide) and water only; any perfumes added are derived from plants and essential oils.
The laurel oil in Aleppo soaps is obtained from a tree which grows in mountains in cold climates. It gives fruit every year and the oil is obtained by boiling the fruit. This tree is not widely distributed and the fruit's oil has a nice and natural smell. The laurel oil has an anti-bacterial, anti- fungal effect, and can be of benefit in skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and other diseases. It was used in the past in surgical operations as a natural disinfectant (sterilizer). There is evidence that it was used by the pharaohs, and it has been found in some Egyptian tombs, including that of Cleopatra. The Roman Caesars used laurel for crowns and held it in high esteem due to its healing properties and pleasant aroma.
Lorbeer Soap has no added colourants or chemicals. The soap has only natural oils, such as those obtained from olives, almonds, coconuts, sesame seeds and laurel berries.
