Aleppo has been renowned for its handmade soap industry for over 1,000 years. Lorbeer's Traditional Aleppo soap takes a full year for production and drying. Composed of olive oil, laurel oil, lye (sodium hydroxide), and water, any added perfumes are derived from plants and essential oils.
The laurel oil in Aleppo soaps comes from a tree that thrives in mountainous, cold climates. This tree, not widely distributed, produces fruit annually, and the oil is extracted by boiling the fruit. Laurel oil, with its pleasant natural aroma, has antibacterial and antifungal properties and can benefit skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Historically, it was used as a natural disinfectant in surgical operations and has been found in Egyptian tombs, including Cleopatra's. The Roman Caesars also esteemed laurel for its healing properties and aromatic scent, often using it for crowns.
Lorbeer Soap contains no added colorants or chemicals, featuring only natural oils from olives, almonds, coconuts, sesame seeds, and laurel berries.
